Tim was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and attended Saint Cloud State University where he earned a degree in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism.

He joined Spectrum News for the launch in 2002 from NBC's affiliate station in Eureka, California, KIEM-TV. He currently hosts our nightly political show called Capital Tonight.

Tim started as a reporter in 2002, then eventually helped launch our weekly show Political Connections in 2006. He was then promoted to weekday evening anchor in 2008 before taking on the role of developing and hosting Capital Tonight in April 2012.

As a reporter, Tim has covered Hurricane Isabel, the Michael Peterson murder trial, the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals and the 2005 Final Four.

As a political reporter and anchor, Tim covered the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions, the 2012 and 2016 Republican National Convention, John Edwards' 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns and several gubernatorial and senatorial elections as well. In his role, he has also moderated debates for U.S. Senate, Charlotte mayor and all Council of State races.

  1. I'm getting a master's degree online in communications.
  2. I never ate veggies until my 20s. Now I eat any food put in front of me, the crazier the better. Last year I ate antelope and kangaroo.
  3. My mom passed away when I was just 17.
  4. I'm a sucker for stupid comedies – i.e. "Step Brothers" and "Wedding Crashers."
  5. I had dreamed of owning a Jeep Wrangler and finally recently bought one.
