EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — On Monday, Culver City will begin issuing citations for parking violations in shared bus/bike lanes and at bus stops, following a 60-day warning period that will end Sunday.
Drivers who park illegally in bus lanes, at bus stops or along the shared bus/bike lanes on the MOVE corridor will receive citations in the mail.
The Automated Bus Lane Enforcement program uses advanced camera systems installed on Culver CityBus vehicles to capture instances of vehicles blocking bus stops and shared mobility lanes. The illegal parking violations impact the safety, accessibility and efficiency of public transit — particularly for riders with disabilities — by preventing buses from safely pulling to the curb and forcing passengers to board in unsafe areas, according to a Culver CityBus news release Friday.
Violations captured through the ABLE system will result in a $293 fine, matching existing penalties currently enforced by on-the-ground officers. The ABLE technology enhances enforcement by providing continuous, real-time monitoring and creating a safer, more reliable experience for bus riders and cyclists alike, Culver CityBus stated in the news release.
Culver City is joining other California cities, including Los Angeles, in deploying automated transit zone enforcement with bus-mounted camera systems.
