GASPORT, N.Y. -- Three people died in a two-car crash in Gasport, Niagara County last Sunday. Earlier that day, about 10 miles to the west on the same road, a four-year-old girl was hit by a car while attending a yard sale with her mother.

The sheriff says an early investigation shows around 8 p.m. Sunday, a car on Quaker Road did not yield the right of way to a pickup truck on Ridge Road.

The driver of the car, 82-year-old Margaret Hammerl, and a backseat passenger, Andrew Hammerl, both of Stamford, Connecticut, died at the scene. The front seat passenger, 77-year-old Mary Haberman, of Eggertsville, died of her injuries Thursday.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 29-year-old Gasport man, was treated at the scene. There were no immediate charges.

The four-year-old girl injured in the Lockport crash was flown by medical helicopter to a Buffalo hospital.

"The mother walked across the street back to her vehicle for something and the child darted out to follow her and the driver never had a chance to see her and unfortunately, didn't have a chance to stop," said Chief Deputy Michael Dunn, Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
