ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rene Bailey, the Greece woman whose shaken-baby murder conviction was overturned in 2014, pleaded guilty Monday to felony assault in the death of two-year-old Brittney Sheets.

While the pain hasn't subsided for David Sheets, he said there is comfort as someone has finally admitted responsibility.

"It means everything. She denied it all these years. Said she fell," said David, Brittney's father. "We all know it was not true."

Bailey steadfastly claimed Brittany's injuries were caused by a fall inside her in-home day care, but in 2002, a jury convicted her of murder.

Under the deal, Bailey will not serve any more prison time, as she had already served more than 12 years.

After shedding tears in court, Bailey left the courtroom without comment.

The plea deal was made with permission of Brittney's family.
