SAN MARCOS, Texas - Indigenous people from across the globe gathered in San Marcos for the annual powwow.
The event brings together indigenous tribes from all regions, including one tribe from as far as New Zealand. Folks attending enjoyed the music, dancing and culture of each of the tribes.
Vendors also sold traditional indigenous goods to help support future powwows.
They say it's a way to keep the cultures of their tribes living on for years to come.
"By sharing this and opening it to the public, it makes people aware that we are still very much alive.
We haven't been decimated as a society or as a culture, and we still have lots to contribute," said Gene Randall, powwow organizer.
This is the seventh powwow in San Marcos.
Organizers say the event has grown so big over the years that for the first time this year's powwow was expanded into a two-day event.
