GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Following the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump, some top Democrats are no longer calling on President Joe Biden to drop out.

This follows the first presidential debate where Biden had a poor performance and most recently at the NATO press conference where he called Ukraine President Zelenskyy, “Putin.”

However, with all this uncertainty and political violence, some voters in Guilford County said they are still backing Biden.

BJ Gerald stated that being under pressure is not a valid reason for misremembering names, yet she says she’ll still vote for him this November.

“I’ve talked to several seniors since this event, and the seniors that I have spoken to have been very proactive about saying, ‘BJ, I’m standing behind Joe Biden,' and that’s how I feel,” she said.

The latest survey by Pew Research Center, conducted among 9,424 adults including 7,729 registered voters, shows that both Biden and Trump are perceived as flawed but in distinct ways.

Approximately 68% of voters express dissatisfaction with the presidential candidates.

As president of the Senior Democrats of Guilford County, Gerald makes sure all concerns are heard by taking and making phone calls.

Seniors are primarily concerned about issues such as Social Security and the rising cost of prescription drugs.

“The pharmaceutical issues are the things that we must continue to emphasize to people and make sure that they are aware (of) the importance of getting out to vote and making sure that we vote blue,” Gerald said.

She added those 50 and up will play a key role in this year’s election, especially when it comes to their benefits.

According to the Pew Research Center, Trump leads Biden among voters ages 50 and older by 48% to 39%.
