ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Thursday was Zy’Jae St. Pierre’s kindergarten graduation day.

The 5-year-old has been missing for more than a week and a half after going over a railing and accidentally falling into the Genesee River.

“It breaks my heart. I’m trying to stay strong, to be honest,” said Ty’Jae’s grandmother, Latoraya Brian.

She described her grandson as the sweetest boy ever as she held a large card signed by Ty’Jae’s classmates. It includes a photo of Ty’Jae in his kindergarten cap and gown.

Dancers from Divine Pearls Mime Dancers were among those at the event along the Genesee River.

A crowd of people paid respects to the family and celebrated the life of the child who would soon be a first-grader.

“Please continue to come out in helping us find my baby," said Brian. "That’s all I want. Just find him. And I want to thank those scuba divers for coming out every day. And I’ve been following them bridge by bridge. Grandma's been on this bridge, on all the bridges, and auntie. I appreciate you all.”

“As a community, we’re gonna just keep coming together and we’re going to keep doing whatever we can with the family, whatever they may need. We just want to come together and just keep things going in hope of him being found too,” said organizer Shonda Hannah.

Police are continuing the search for Zy’Jae’s body and continue to ask the public to call 911 should anyone see something in the river that could be the little boy’s body.
