GREENSBORO, N.C. — A woman in the Triad is working to raise money for a nonprofit that supports teens in Greensboro after their grant has ended.

Turning Everything Around Teens provides mentorship, meals and trauma therapy to teen girls in the community.

     What You Need To Know

  • Community advocate Lisa McMillan launched Turning Everything Around Teens in 2023

  • The pregnancy prevention program was funded by Second Harvest Food Bank for six months

  • Now, McMillan is working to keep the resource available for the teens who need it

Founder Lisa McMillan says growing up, she didn’t know about the resources available to her, so now she makes it her mission to ensure her community has access to the essentials.

“I am intentional about trying to connect to those opportunities to get them for the girls,” McMillan said.

Second Harvest Food Bank funded the pregnancy prevention program for six months.

Since the grant ran out, McMillan has been working to keep the weekly meetings available for the girls by raising money for donations.

“We needed to create an environment just for them to be able to express themselves and have a space to get what they need,” she said.

McMillan also directs the Turning Everything Around community advocacy group and serves as chair of the Greensboro Transit Advisory Commission and the Guilford County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
