GREENSBORO, N.C. — The sandcastle is always a staple at the Wyndham Championship, and this year it was only done by one person.

What You Need to Know

The sandcastle is made by one man

He's been building sandcastles for a living for 25 years

This year the castle is a part of a new scavenger hunt

Patrick Harsch travels from Florida each year to make the sandcastle at the tournament.

He explains it's always in a different location and is a different size each year.

This year he's building an 8-foot sandcastle with 25 tons of sand on the Sedgefield Country Club's golf course.

"The more sand and water you get mixed together, the more packed it becomes," Harsch explained.

Harsch has been sculpting sandcastles for 25 years, and he's built this main attraction at the Wyndham for almost a decade.

He says he always loved playing with clay and playdough as a kid, so making it a career was a dream come true.

"How fast it happens is a pretty unique art form. You don't have a lot of time to kind of dilly-dally around or overthink things," Harsch emphasized.

Harsch jokes that it can be a good thing that it comes down almost as fast as it's built.

"If it didn't turn out the way you wanted it, it will be gone soon anyways," Harsch said.

Harsch likes to focus on the details of the sculpture because he says that's what attracts people to the sandcastle.

Even though he can be hard on himself, he's happy with the way this year's sandcastle turned out.

"I like it. It turned out just as no castle in particular, just make it up as you go," he said.

Harsch will be at the Wyndham Championship watching the castle all week to make sure it stays in its best condition for the fans to see.

The sandcastle is also a part of a new scavenger hunt at the Wyndham this year, where people can scan QR codes to gain points.

Since the castle is a part of the scavenger hunt, the location is not being revealed to fans.
