DOBSON, N.C. — Fisher River Park in Surry County is expanding its trail system and recreational activities.
Park staff are working with volunteers to improve the park's mountain bike course, construct a new one mile loop for a multi-use trail and extend the existing multi-use trail.
Surry County Parks and Recreation Director Daniel White says the usage of the park's resources and river access points have increased significantly over the last few years.
White says 55,000 people were using their river access points in 2019, and 120,000 people were using the access points by 2020.
He says they're so happy people are enjoying this park.
"You get outside, and so many of us have vitamin D deficiency, and this just gives you an opportunity to get out in a safe, peaceful environment and interact with the rivers, the streams and just come out to the park, and that's what makes Fisher River Park special," White emphasized.
He says they plan to continue expanding, and they hope to have 15 river access points by the time the project is done.
The park currently has six river access points.
