GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kamellah Parker said growing up she always wanted to be a helper.
Now, she’s found a way to help women who want protection without carrying a firearm.
Parker created Secu(HER) Bags, a business that she runs out of her living room. Parker buys a taser, an alarm, and pepper spray at wholesale, combines them in an easy-to-carry bag, and sells them at half price.
“I want to help women make sure that they have all the tools that they need to be the best woman that they can be,” Parker says.
Her inspiration comes from her mother, Mary, who was stabbed 18 times in a domestic violence attack. Parker never wants another woman to be in a situation where they can’t protect themselves.
“She was stabbed when she was in the 10th grade. So just knowing that I’m here as her miracle child because she wasn’t supposed to have any children, this is my positive contribution to the world,” Parker says.
