PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- Members of the Pilot Mountain community are working with Friends of Sauratown Mountains to create a specialty license plate for approval by the North Carolina legislature.
Friends of Sauratown Mountains is a sanctioned 501c3 organization that supports Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock State Parks.
Regina Rollins, a member of the group, says they are hoping that as plates are purchased, it will generate a stream of income to be used for projects not covered by the state at Pilot Mountain State Park.
“Tools are bought with the funds. The Friends of Sauratown Mountain does some trail maintenance along with the park to keep the trails in good shape. We do conservation, wild flowers are planted are various remote spots," Rollins said.
In order to obtain approval, the group must have 300 applications by February 15, 2021 to submit to the General Assembly for approval. If approved, the first plates will probably start being issued June 2021 at the earliest.
Forms may be printed here, or a paper copy may be obtained from The Pilot Mountain State Park Visitor Center, Anderson Law Offices, the Head Shoppe in Pilot Mountain, the Armfield Civic Center, and at the Pilot Mountain Town Hall.
The form, plus a check of $30, may be returned to Pilot Mountain Town Hall or mailed to Friends of Sauratown Mountains at P.O. Box 353, Danbury, NC 27016.
You also can email your application to debbie.vaden@sauratownfriends.org and pay $31. The extra $1 is to help cover the transaction fee on the website.
