GREENSBORO, N.C. – Movie theaters across North Carolina are still unable to open according to Gov. Roy Cooper's rules and regulations with Phase 2.5.
Marty Kotis, owner of Red Cinemas in Greensboro, had to close his movie theater in March.
He says he doesn't have any time frame from Cooper about when he can re-open, but in the meantime he's preparing to make his theater as safe as possible.
He's been reducing the number of seats, adding foot pedals to doors, and plexiglass shields.
Kotis says he doesn't understand why he can't re-open with all of the safety regulations he's put in place.
“It's about if you're sitting here or you're sitting at a restaurant, what's really the difference? It should be about let's space everyone 6 feet, let's wear a mask, let's sanitize,” Kotis emphasizes.
Novant Health's Dr. Alicia Brooks says COVID-19 has a higher chance of spreading if you're in an enclosed space for a long time like a movie theater.
Kotis still disagrees, and he's put up billboards in Greensboro to question the government's decisions and start a conversation in the community.
