FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Law enforcement takes special precautions to keep their K9s safe during hotter temperatures.
Forsyth County Sgt. Seth Carter works with his three-year-old K9 named Ranger.
Carter says dogs can get heatstroke and heat exhaustion just like humans, so he keeps a constant check on that.
One of the things that help him do this is a Hot-N-Pop, which monitors the temperature inside of his vehicle.
“So if it gets above a certain degree inside the car, it sets the alarm off, and it kicks a fan on and alerts us that we need to get back to them, and that it’s getting too hot in there for them,” Carter explains.
He says he also can give his K9 an IV when he’s working hard in the heat to keep him hydrated.
