GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina students have stepped up and joined the N.C. COVID-19 Student Response Team.

It's to help out local governments and nonprofits as they grapple with the pandemic's impact on their communities.

UNCG student Mikala King is doing a virtual internship with Northwestern Regional Library.

She says it's a great way to help out the government and educate the community in a time that people need it the most.

King feels it's especially important because so many people are reliant on social media and the government's actions right now.

“We can help educate people on what the government is doing and how it has been doing things in the past and how we can come back out, and do the voting process and make a change,” King emphasizes.

More than 80 North Carolina college students have been matched to opportunities with local government agencies and nonprofits across the state.
