HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Drive-thrus have proved to be an essential way of doing business during the pandemic, but now that service is expanding beyond fast-food.

Hundreds of books are being pushed out of High Point Public Library in an effort to fight coronavirus.

Manager Shelly Witcher has seen over 1,000 customers in just a month, some stopping by to pick up their favorite non-fiction or children's books.

Witcher has been working at the library for a couple of decades now, and while she says the traditional way of checking out a book has changed for now, the goal is to protect themselves and the customers.

Most libraries in the area are doing curbside pickup but High Point library is providing avid readers a more efficient and sanitary way to rent.

To further limit the spread of COVID-19, the library sets aside all returned materials in containers for at least 72 hours before staff checks it back in.
