NORTH CAROLINA -- Cities and counties across the Piedmont-Triad area are making changes to transit schedules and fares as ridership drops off.
The transit systems in Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem are all operating on revised schedules.
In Greensboro, GTA is running a combined seven routes, very similar to its normal Sunday schedule.
The city is also offering free rides and encouraging all riders to enter the bus through the rear doors.
The High Point Transit Authority is still following most of its weekday routes, except the Industrial Park and Jamestown GTCC routes.
Winston-Salem is currently operating on its Saturday schedule.
All agencies are making extra efforts to clean its buses and vehicles more frequently. WSTA has specific seats blocked off in the front of the bus in order to encourage social distancing.
Leaders from all agencies say the safety of its riders and drivers remains their number one priority.
In the more rural Davidson County, new rules have been implemented, including riders only being allowed on the bus if it's for medical, pharmacy, food, or employment reasons.
