GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina A&T State University is offering a new LGBTA resource center to students.
The center provides a space for community, support services, and education as a resource for learning about the community.
“There are students who are coming in different spaces, mentally, physically, emotionally and with those collaborations we are able to help those students,” said Gerald Spates, Director at Multicultural Student Center. “To meet their individual needs so they will feel whole on campus. That regardless of who they are we embrace them and we want them here.”
Some students say they're excited about the new space.
“To get together and talk about LGBT issues like trans students finding appropriate clothing for their gender expression,” said Asia Hill. “Or finding binders to make sure their body image fits what they find in their mind and their heart.”
The university is among the growing population of institutions of higher education with a space devoted to the LGBTQ+ community.
