GREENSBORO, N.C. -- People who live in a flood-prone neighborhood in Greensboro are anxious about all of the rain expected this week.

Sarah Womack has been living in her house next to Latham Park for 36 years and said last July was the first time her home flooded. She said her whole first floor was damaged, costing her thousands of dollars in damages. She had to live upstairs for three months without a kitchen while construction work was being done.

“There's no taking back what we went through. There's no taking it back. It was the worst time of my life. I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack,” Womack said.

The city has taken action to help minimize flooding in this neighborhood.

The city performs regular efforts to clean the brush on the creek to make sure its flowing properly. Their field operations crews also cleared sandbars and cleaned drainage ways after the storms last summer.
