Lexington N.C. -- A new meat processing facility is opening in Davidson County and it's for deer only.

Owner of Coletown Deer Processing, William Cook, said there's demand in the area because there are only a few places where you can get processed deer meat.

This factory skins and guts the meat, processes it, and makes it into burgers, sausages, or cube steaks.

Cook said most of their meat comes from hunters, but he said they can sometimes salvage road kill.

“Every now and then somebody hits one and it's in decent shape we'll salvage what we can. Every now and then the game warden will bring a poached deer by and we'll process it and usually donate it,” said Cook.

This facility is located off of Highway 47 in Lexington and is expected to open by mid-November.
