GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In August, VF Corporation announced it was splitting from Wrangler and moving to Denver. This week the split was finalized, and Wrangler joined Lee under the new company Kontoor Brands.

  • 85 jobs were lost in the split
  • Lee brand brought jobs when it relocated from Kansas City
  • Rock & Republic is also part of the company

"I think it's important because it has been a staple of this city for well over a century. That's who we are. You know we play around with Jeansboro, but that really is a part of our heritage," Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said.

Even though 85 jobs were lost in the split, the Lee brand brought jobs when it relocated from Kansas City. The clothing brand Rock & Republic is also part of the company.

“Since the separation from VF was first announced last August, we have planned for this moment and we are fully prepared to succeed," Kontoor's president, Scott Baxter, said

Vaughan thinks having another major corporation call Greensboro home validates all the work the city's done to prepare for companies.

"The City of Greensboro is a great place to be. It's a great place to invest in, and this really just really verifies the things we have known and the investments we've made that Greensboro is the place to be."
