DOBSON, N.C. -- Authorities are investigating a fatal fire Monday morning at an apartment complex in Surry County.

  • Officials say two women and one man died in the fire
  • A senior from Elking High School was in critical condition, but was reported dead on Tuesday
  • Authorities are currently working to identify the other victims

Emergency Management Officials received a 911 call around 3:20 a.m. Monday morning

Firefighters attempted to rescue four people from inside but three died before they could be saved.

Officials say two women, 22-year-old Cheyenne Moses and 19-year-old Katherine Woods, and one man, 22-year-old Ryan Gwyn, died in the fire.

Taylor Chipman, a senior at Elkin High School, was in critical condition, but was reported dead on Tuesday. Officials at the school says the tragedy has been extra hard on students. They've brought in additional counselors and resources to help students and set up a memorial for both Chipman and Moses (a former student) in the main hallway.

Two other victims affected by the fire were Lauren Brintle and Andrew Moore, who lost everything days before their wedding.

The Fire Marshal's Office and SBI are investigating the cause of the blaze.
