DOBSON, N.C. -- Two victims from Monday’s apartment fire in Surry County lost everything days before their wedding.

  • The fire started six days before Lauren Brintle and Andrew Moore's wedding
  • Almost all of their belongings were lost
  • The community has come together to save their wedding

The apartment fire in Dobson started at about 3:20 a.m. Monday morning, just six days before Lauren Brintle and Andrew Moore's  wedding day.

Brintle said she woke up to someone knocking hard on their apartment and thought someone was breaking in, but her fiance told her it was a fire.

“He’s telling me to jump so I’ve got to go over and then right when we hit the other side of the sidewalk I just thought 'Oh my gosh there goes all of our stuff,'” said Brintle.

“It’s a very hollow feeling just to know that everything you worked for is just gone,” she explained.

However, Lauren and Andrew are very grateful they are alive, unlike others.

Lauren said only a few but very important belongings were saved from the fire, like Andrew’s wedding band, the letters they exchanged while he was away in the military and her engagement ring.

Although the family lost almost all of their belongings, they are overwhelmed by the support from the community.

“We just want the family to know that we are thinking about them. We want the family next door. We want those families to know we are thinking about them and they are in our thoughts and our prayers,” said principal of Gentry Middle School, Brandon Whitaker.

Lauren’s mother, Kathy Brintle, is teacher at Gentry Middle School and families from the school have been donating clothing to the young couple.

“Before the sun came up yesterday morning some ladies from our church texted me 'We will get her a dress'. And so they told her last night and said your fairy godmothers have gone in together and have purchased this for you,” said Kathy.

Lauren is so thankful her Sunday wedding will go on despite this awful tragedy that could have ruined her special day, and even worse, could have taken their lives.

“It’s truly amazing the amount of people that want to help and have helped. The amount of people at just five o’clock in the morning Monday that were like what do they need its just amazing,” said Brintle.

There is also a GoFundMe page set up for this young couple called, “Bride Jumps From Blazing Home".
