DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- As the weather gets warmer and people start swimming, the dive team at the Fair Grove Fire Department wants everyone to take every precautions when they're around water.

  • The Fair Grove Fire Department is a volunteer department that responds to High Rock Lake.
  • Their dive team is training as the weather warms up.
  • They remind everyone to take precaution around the water, especially if alcohol is involved

The dive team responds to rescue and recovery calls but because they are a volunteer department, and miles away from High Rock Lake, their responses take time.

"Typically by the time a dive team is dispatched, and arrives, and gets the information, and gets in the water, you're looking at least an hour if we were called on dispatch," Assistant Chief Halsey Hoosier says.

The divers know accidents happen, but encourage people to use the buddy system and be smart about drinking alcohol around boats.

"If you're out with your family or you're out with friends hold everybody accountable to what's going on, and make sure all your safety devices are with you. Make sure that you can help the emergency responders coming," Gainey said.
