ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- Flood water triggered two rescues overnight and have washed out at least two roads, causing some significant problems.

  • Some roads were so flooded that they have completely collapsed
  • Rockingham County dispatch said at least one water rescue off Highway 135, as well as one on River and Grogan Roads
  • For now, crews are re-routing traffic and are trying their best to get things restored as quickly as possible

Some roads were even so flooded that they have completely collapsed.

DOT crews said they've been out repairing roads since 11 p.m. last night.

At first, crews were just responding to some downed trees but that quickly escalated as water began backing up, ultimately causing the road to cave in.

Rockingham County dispatch said at least one water rescue off Highway 135, as well as one on River and Grogan Roads.

"It overwhelmed the pipes here and the water actually came up over the road," said Brad Wall, a Division 7 maintenance engineer. "There's a water line in here as well and that's just exacerbated the problems."

For now, crews are re-routing traffic and are trying their best to get things restored as quickly as possible.
