THOMASVILLE -- One woman is dead following an early morning house fire in Thomasville on Friday.

Crews spent about five hours putting out the flames and hot spots and got called to the home two more times when spots rekindled.

Neighbors say the victim’s son, who lives next door, tried to save his mother while she was trapped inside.

By the time he made it to the house, the fire was already fully involved.

“It’s a loss for the whole neighborhood really. She’s going to be dearly missed. And her son’s going to be in bad shape for awhile, I think,” said Charles Dickens.

The pilot fire chief says the fire marshal will be at the home early next week to investigate the cause.
