WINSTON-SALEM -- Skippy's Hot Dogs in Winston-Salem has served its last pretzel dog.
The announcement came Tuesday on social media:
It's the same restaurant where the long time owner, Mike Rothman, ran the business.
Rothman died from cancer but, before his death, dozens of local restaurant owners hosted a fundraiser at the hot dog shop for his medical bills, raising $100,000.
"I think it's a loss for the community, definitely a loss for the down town community,” says former customer Algenon Cash. “You know, there's a lot of people working and living in downtown now. This had become a regular lunch spot for a lot of people. Definitely a loss."
The restaurant owner says it's too soon to talk about future plans for the shop.
