Residual cold, dry air is in place across the region today, and after an amazing stretch of arctic weather, the ground is frozen.
Precipitation will continue to try and develop into the region. Very dry air in place will chew up a lot of that precipitation, and temperatures will likely slowly crawl above freezing today.
However, with the ground frozen, some minor ice accumulation could occur, especially on elevated surfaces.
This will not be an ice storm, and many people will likely only receive liquid drizzle or rain. However, this is a rather unique situation for North Carolina where the ground is frozen and there could be a little ice accumulation even with temperatures slightly above freezing.
The most prone areas will be bridges and overpasses as well as other elevated surfaces.
Much milder weather will be here for the rest of the week with some days actually featuring some above average highs!
