BURLINGTON -- Nearly 30 percent of the violent crimes committed in Burlington were done by teenagers. A city council member believes there's more city officials can do to curb crime and she believes it starts with city leaders and the teenager's parents before police.

"We can go after the bad guys after the crime has happened,” says Council Member Kathy Hykes, “but, what can we do that 5, 10 years down the road. We're not looking at the same problem. As this generation grows up they have the supports in place that we feel that they need."

Hykes wants council to help identify people that could sit on the task force if it passes. She will formally introduced the idea during the December 4 meeting.
