BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Alamance County Commissioners are deciding the future of the old 30,000 square-foot Kernodle Clinic building in Burlington.
The building, which is estimated to have been built in the 1940s, is owned by the county but has been vacant for several years.
County Commissioners opened bidding on the building in October, but only received one bid of $10,000 from the Alamance Academy.
The Alamance Academy is a substance abuse treatment center with a focus on mental health treatment services.
While some feel the bid is too low, others feel the building has become a liability and selling to the Academy would have a positive impact on the community.
If sold for as low as $10,000, the building is still said to need many repairs, some potentially costing in the range of $300,000; an expense the academy says it's prepared to take up.
The council will wait 30 days before they decide to accept or decline the bid.
