GREENSBORO -- Officials with Greensboro Parks and Rec are creating a new system-wide master plan.

Recently, the department hired the consulting group, Sasaki, to assist.

The existing plan was adopted back in 1998 and expires at the end of the year, and an up to date plan is needed to keep Greensboro Parks and Rec a nationally accredited organization.

When complete, the new master plan will provide a framework for the use and development of the city park system for the next 20 years.

The planning process will review the department's current operations and provide recommendations, priorities and strategies.

Park leaders say during the process, they want to hear from you and plan to reach out in a number of ways.

"We will be having an online presence, we will be doing your general community meetings, and we will be doing efforts to engage the youth,” said Shawna Tillery the Planning and Project Development Division Manager. “We are just really trying to be creative and not just hold general neighborhood meetings. We really want to go out to individuals in the community."

Tillery said the plan is expected to take 10-months to complete and more than $230,000.
