GUILFORD COUNTY -- Guilford County commissioners will make their final decision on the proposed rock quarry near Pleasant Garden on Thursday night.

City leaders there say they're against the quarry from a safety standpoint, pointing to information from the developer that shows truck routes will run pass their elementary school and nursing home.

If the quarry is approved, about 200 trucks will be coming in and out of the area every day.

Lehigh Hanson, the company backing the quarry, says heavy vegetation in the area will provide a barrier for the project's sound and physical appearance.

People in Pleasant Garden are also concerned with the impact the quarry and blasting will have on the area wells and water supply.

Lehigh Hanson, the company that owns the property, says they have submitted new conditions including a well protection program.
