Need an escape from the city? Now you can do it without even leaving the five boroughs. NY1's Lindsay Tuchman gives us a look into the one-time only pop up escape at Gateway National Park.

Imagine the sound of the ocean and a room that measures just 200 square feet.

Jon Staff, the founder of the hospitality company Getaway says it’s all you need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

"I grew up in the middle of nowhere, in the woods of northern Minnesota where we had a cabin culture and it was easy to get away and have camp fires and then I moved to the city and that got a lot harder,” he said. “I wanted to figure out a way to get back to the woods and disconnect and recharge"

Getaway is a collection of tiny fully furnished homes in the middle of the woods that you can book by the night, and the idea has now come to Staten Island.

Three mobile cabins are stationed at a secret location within Gateway National Recreation Area.

"Many people don't know the national park service has these great properties right in the five boroughs,” Staff said. “So we wanted to highlight that and give people a chance to disconnect and recharge without even leaving the city."

The cabins come with only a few amenities, including hot and cold running water, a shower, and kitchenette.

The experience is designed to be an easy way for guests to reconnect with nature and relax with loved ones.

"You don't have to do anything, you don't have to pack anything,” Staff said. “We give you a cell phone lock box so you can lock up your cell phones and get off of e-mail and texts for a night."

The reason you can’t know exactly where the houses are located, is because it is part of the experience. Getaway wants you to not know where you are until you get there.

"We are a little different from a hotel in that sense,” Director of Guest Experience Kai Gilsey said. “Hotel's are always pushing to have you, go explore, go see this, go do your next thing and we are saying just sit tight, sit down relax, enjoy the time that you have and be bored. It's okay."

When your trip comes to an end, the folks at Getaway hope you’ll leave recharged and ready to live a more balanced life. Each guests goes home with a note with tips on how to do just that.
