NORTH CAROLINA -- North Carolinians are taking part in Mother Teresa becoming a saint.
Charlotte artist Chas Fagan painted a portrait of Mother Teresa that’s hanging on the façade of St. Peter’s Basilica. It was commissioned by the Knights of Columbus who will hand out of a million of the prayer cards during the ceremony at the Vatican.
Fagan will be there to watch the ceremony, along with at least 10 others from the Charlotte area.
“It'll be me and a million and a half of my closest friends in Rome,” said Fr. Benjamin Roberts, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Monroe. “This is probably a once in a lifetime experience to be present at a canonization.”
Saint Francis will officially make Mother Teresa a saint at a ceremony Sunday morning.
