A new year, a new month, and it's winter here across the Piedmont and mountain zones of North Carolina. Naturally, we do tend to think about snow and how much we may, or may not, see this month.
The end of our week brings a chance for snow to portions of western NC and, perhaps, areas close the the Charlotte region. So, what might we expect this month for Asheville and Charlotte in terms of snowfall averages?
On average, Asheville sees about 4.1 inches of snow for the month of January. Even less in Charlotte, with 2.1 inches of snow being the average snow accumulation in January.
Asheville records show that back in January of 1966 roughly 17.6 inches of snow was recorded for the month. Way back in in 1906, January 26-27 saw a record of 16.7 inches of snow fall.

As for Charlotte, well, many of you know what a fickle beast the region can be for any good snow at all. February tends to be a bit busier than January for the metro zone.
