FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina organization also took a moment Monday to honor fallen officers with the help of the Triad community.
The Forsyth County Fallen Officers Foundation hosted its annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at the Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem.
“So nice to honor these officers, all of the families, because this is something they have to go with, deal with daily. Every holiday is different. Every event, every birthday, it's different,” said Lt. Butch Moore from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department.
The group has held this event every year since 2008.
“Biggest thing is this, we never forget. For the families and for us, we never forget this,” Moore said.
Monday, the event honored 28 fallen officers from 1895 to 2023.
“I'm just one of 28 families represented here today. And, you know, it may be 1995 when our son was killed. But you never forget,” Ginger Amos said.
Amos is the president of the Fallen Officers Foundation, and she’s also the mother of a fallen officer, Steve Amos.
Amos said this event is needed every year, especially after four officers were killed and five injured in a shooting April 29 in Charlotte.
“Never forget. And anything that happens in the community that affects law enforcement, enforcement officers, just like the disasters and Charlotte this year, it brings it all to mind. And we have to continue praying and supporting each others to get through,” Amos said.
This memorial was also in partnership with all Forsyth County law enforcement agencies.
