An Oswego County woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing disability benefits meant for her dead son.
Lisa Waldron of Palermo was sentenced to prison Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Brenda Sannes, having pleaded guilty in April to 11 counts of theft of government property after a December 2022 federal indictment.
It stems from years of Waldron, 44, receiving Social Security benefits for her son Jordan Brooks, a minor with cerebral palsy who investigators said was found malnourished and neglected when he died in May 2021. Waldron also pleaded guilty in July to manslaughter and assault charges related to Brooks’ death, brought by the Oswego County DA’s office.
Waldron admitted to not notifying the Social Security Administration of Brooks’ death and using benefits meant for him to pay for food and a vacation, among other unrelated expenses. The SSA discovered the theft in April 2022.
As part of her plea, Waldron also will have to pay more than $13,000 in restitution.
A separate criminal trial for her husband, Anthony Waldron, on charges related to Jordan's death, is set for October.
