The Week in Review
1. Wisconsin lawmakers at odds over Los Angeles protests
Though almost 2,000 miles away, what was unfolding in California this week had Wisconsin lawmakers talking. Federal immigration crackdowns aren’t just happening in California. Ramón Morales-Reyes of Milwaukee, who made national headlines after being falsely accused of threatening President Donald Trump, is still facing deportation because he doesn’t have legal permission to live in the country.
2. EXCLUSIVE: 'The schools are out of control': MPS teacher recalls parent attack inside school
Tracey Watkins-Gobbeo said she has been a special education teacher for 30 years. On Nov. 26, 2024, the mother of one of her students attacked her during a parent-teacher meeting. Since the incident, she's lost sick time due to her health and said she wants MPS to be held accountable.
3. Lawmakers, farmers raise concerns about aging farm work force
America’s farmers are getting older, raising concerns in Congress and the agriculture industry. The USDA said the average age of agricultural producers in 2022 was about 58-years-old. The leader of Wisconsin’s largest organization of farmers this week urged lawmakers to provide incentives to encourage young people to become and remain farmers.
4. The race to replace Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler wraps up this weekend
The race to replace Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) Chair Ben Wikler will come to an end at the state convention this weekend in Wisconsin Dells. Wikler announced in April that he would not seek a fourth term after losing the race to serve as chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
5. Green Bay Packers release cornerback Jaire Alexander
The Green Bay Packers released cornerback Jaire Alexander on Monday, Packers' General Manager Brian Gutekunst said. The Packers reportedly offered Alexander a restructured contract, but he turned that down. The move makes the 28-year-old Alexander a free agent since the team hasn't found a trade partner.
