Sunshine is back in our area today, but the threat of flooding continues along our coast.
Yesterday, ocean overwash damaged part of the dunes along Highway 12 in Rodanthe. A section of Highway 12 between Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe will be impassable, especially during high tide today.
According to North Carolina Department of Transportation's Twitter account, repairs to the dune may not begin until Tuesday. Its residents should avoid travel on this part of Highway 12.
Significant ocean overwash remains possible during high tide. Moderate to major coastal flooding remains a concern for areas along the southern Pamlico Sound/Lower Neuse River through Monday. For areas along the Crystal Coast and the coastal Onslow, minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected with high tide today.
Wind gusts will continue to diminish on Monday but could still top out over 25 miles per hour across the coastal plains and up to 40 mph along the Outer Banks.
This could result in some scattered power outages. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories have been discontinued.
In our marine forecast, expect seas of 8 to 15 feet, as well as strong gale and storm-force winds. Rough surf and minor beach erosion are likely.
