Tropical Storm Cindy formed in the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday afternoon. The storm is forecast to make landfall in western Louisiana or near the Louisiana and Texas border by late Wednesday or early Thursday.
The heaviest rainfall from the storm is expected east of the storm's path. That could bring six to nine inches of rain to southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle over the next few days.
After the storm makes landfall, tropical moisture from its remnants could enhance the chance for heavy rain in or near North Carolina by the end of the week or weekend.
Cindy is not the only storm meteorologists are tracking this week. Tropical Storm Bret formed late Monday in the Atlantic and is now passing just north of South America. Bret became a remnant low on Tuesday afternoon. The National Hurricane Center has issued its final advisory on that system.
