Stormy weather could impact some outdoor plans this weekend in North Carolina. Fortunately, it will not be a complete washout as parts of the weekend will still be dry. We will have to watch for showers and storms developing mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Some of those storms could become strong especially on Sunday.
After a dry Saturday morning, one round of weekend storms should develop Saturday afternoon with the heating of the day. Highs will top out around 90 to the low 90s outside of the state's mountains and beaches. Any storms that form Saturday will be scattered, so not every one will see rain. If you do find yourself under a storm, heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds are possible.
The greatest chance for strong storms will come Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. The Storm Prediction Center has already outlined much of central and eastern North Carolina for a slight to enhanced risk for severe storms. An enhanced risk is not often seen on the severe outlook in North Carolina a few days in advance. An enhanced risk means numerous severe storms are possible. The greatest risk from severe storms Sunday will likely come from powerful straight line wind gusts that could down trees and damage some structures. A few storms could also produce hail. Based on the expected dynamics of the atmosphere, a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out from central and northeastern North Carolina to the Mid-Atlantic states.
The Weather on the 1s team will be watching this weekend's weather very closely. Stay tuned to Time Warner Cable News for updates.
