After spending more than 25 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit, Dontae Sharpe cast his vote for the first time in North Carolina during October’s early voting period.

On this week’s episode of Tying It Together With Tim Boyum, Sharpe joins Tim and Ben to share his incredible story of what it’s like to be innocent but have no one within the criminal justice system believe you.

He talks about how he handled both his daughter and grandchildren being born while he was in prison, how he has adjusted to life outside during the pandemic and social unrest, and what answers he’s still waiting on from the state to be able to fully move forward with his life.

Later, Sharpe also describes what it was like to vote for the first time since his release.

It’s an incredible story of perseverance and inspiration that you will not want to miss.
