ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- Onslow County is getting safer one community watch group at a time.

The Sheriff's Office says as more residents keep an eye out for suspicious activity, the less likely people are to commit crimes.

Residents apart of community watch also look out for loose dogs, signs of domestic violence, and even children wandering alone.

From July 2016 to June 2017, Onslow County had more than 900 breaking and entering cases, more than 400 vehicle break-ins, more than 1,400 property damage and vandalism cases and more than 1,800 larcenies.

Currently, the county has 109 community watch groups but the Sheriff’s Office hopes to add more to continue to reduce crime.

Recently, ONWASA, Jones-Onslow Electric and Onslow County school bus drivers also joined in on community watch.
