PINE KNOLL SHORES, N.C. -- Kayakers and paddlers took to the water on Saturday for the 10th Annual Kayak for the Warriors in Pine Knoll Shores.

More than 100 people participated to encourage wounded warriors to take part in physical activity and to help raise money for their continued recovery.

Participants say it's a great way to show support for their service.

“The folks that have injuries, encouraging them to get into a sport that they can participate at a high level and even with an injury they're still every bit of a participant," said race participant John McCue.

"My father's career navy so I really like the idea of supporting the armed forces and it's an amazing place and a good benefit and I think this is a thing we should be doing on a regular basis," said New York City resident and race participant Kevin Daly.

In the last nine years, Kayak for the Warriors raised more than $350,000.

All proceeds go to the Hope for the Warriors programs.
