This is the way it works in 2015: you’re born and almost instantly you’re handed a pacifier and some technology?

Yes, even babies are being aimed at by the consumer electronics industry. Or, at the very least, tech products for parents aimed at their babies.

The Smart Baby Bottle Holder which, among other things, will send warnings to the parents’ smartphone if the baby isn’t holding the bottle at the proper angle and is therefore sucking air rather than milk.

“They measure in real-time the weight inside the baby bottle so you know at the end of the meal how much the baby took but you know during the meal if the baby drinks air or if a lump is blocking the nipple," says Jacques Lepine, with Slow Control.

Or to wirelessly keep track of your baby when he or she is running a fever, Blue Spark has developed a bluetooth thermometer wrapped up in a big sticker or adhesive bandage, called TempTraq.

“The patch continuously senses and records the child’s temperature storing the information onto the patch it then connects with the parents’ mobile device so it’s able to send the information to the mobile device and it has the feature that in the event the child’s temperature goes up it can alert the parent that child’s fever is spiking," says John Gannon, with Blue Spark Technologies.

And finally, for the parent who wants to know as much as possible about their baby’s vital signs at all times -- you may want to throw a pair of Owlet socks on your baby’s foot.

“Yeah it’s pretty incredible technology called “pulse oximetry” just shines a little light through the baby’s foot, based on the amount absorbed you get heart rate waves and between red and infrared light absorbed you can get oxygen levels which is directly correlated to breathing," says Kurt Workman, with Owlet Baby Care.

These technologies allow worried parents to breathe and sleep a little easier -- since they can check on their child without walking in on and potentially wake them.
