Kevin Frey is a Washington-based reporter for Spectrum News, covering North Carolina’s congressional delegation. He also files reports for other Spectrum news channels across the country, including NY1 and Bay News 9.
While with Spectrum, Kevin has covered the election scandal in North Carolina's 9th congressional district and also reported from the Supreme Court as justices heard arguments in a case involving partisan gerrymandering. Outside of politics, Kevin reported from the Outer Banks as Hurricane Florence came ashore.
Kevin previously served as the political reporter for WAFB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Baton Rouge, La. While there, he covered multiple legislative sessions at the State Capitol and also reported from Havana during the governor’s weeklong economic development trip to Cuba. He also contributed to WAFB's breaking news coverage of the 2016 shooting ambush on Baton Rouge law enforcement.
Born and raised in Lancaster, Pa., Kevin first got his feet wet in the journalism field during an internship with WGAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in his hometown. He also interned with ABC News, Cox Media Group, and PBS Washington Week. Kevin graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University with a degree in journalism and mass communication.
When he is not roaming the halls of Congress, you’ll find Kevin checking out the latest performances at the Kennedy Center or singing with a local choir.
