A section of Interstate 40 near the North Carolina-Tennessee line has reopened one lane in each direction, transportation officials say.

Traffic has been detoured since a rockslide and flash flood on June 18 blocked the highway in both directions with mud and debris. Crews have been working to clear the roadway and make repairs.

Repairs related to Helene are ongoing, Mark Nagi of the Tennessee Department of Transportation said Friday in a social media post. He continued to urge drivers to use caution when traveling through the area.

The same section of highway in Haywood County saw major damage during Helene in late September.
