Flooding overnight in Wilson shut down streets and filled roads with trash on Monday.
Not only were some cut off for access, some homes were impacted, too.
Resident Reema Williams says she and her son urgently need a temporary place to live after their home flooded.
“Terrified — I was freaking out, like, because I've never been through this. I'm from New York,” Williams said.
She said flooding turned her day upside-down.
“It was wild. It was like all the water from outside was coming up, going to come into everybody’s homes,” she said.
Williams lives on Starship Lane with her son Jeremiah. She said she moved onto the street four years ago. The New York native said Mother Nature was their alarm clock this morning.
“He got up to use the bathroom and noticed that everything was just wet. So he woke me up and said, ‘Mommy, mommy, like, we're flooded out,’" she said.
So were other areas of Wilson.
The Lions Club Park was under water for much of the day. The street parallel to it was shut to traffic.
Summer fun is paused, too. The deluge swamped the pumphouse for the city of Wilson pool, leaving families to find an escape from the heat elsewhere.
Williams was desperate to find somewhere to go for a few days or the money to go check into a hotel.
“I ain’t got it to go nowhere or even a hotel to stay,” she said.
Williams has a renter’s insurance policy but doesn’t know how many of her belongings will be replaced. With drenched carpet and soaked clothes, she is looking for any help she can get.
Williams said the Red Cross contacted her later Monday about her situation.
