ORLANDO, Fla. — Wednesday afternoon the families and survivors were briefed on the current state of the case by the FBI before heading to the Pulse nightclub site for visits inside.

What You Need To Know

  • Families and survivors were briefed by the FBI about the Pulse nightclub case and were told it is near closure

  • Christine Leinonen, mother of victim Chris Leinonen, expressed her frustration and need for accountability

  • The briefing came on the same day as several of the victims' families and survivors began trips to go inside Pulse for the first time since the attack

Some say they were surprised by how the meeting went.

Christine Leinonen, the mother of victim Chris Leinonen, says she expected to have some of her various questions answered and instead says she was told the case is almost closed.

She expressed frustration, wondering why there has not been any indictments in the case and advocated for more accountability.

“This is nowhere near a closeout situation,” Leinonen said. “They came out right out of the jump street saying we’re closing it out.”

Despite her disappointment with the briefing, Leinonen shared that she was ready to see what it is like inside Pulse for the first time since the attack.

“I would have regretted it if I didn’t go through it and I needed to see where my son took his last breath," she said. "It’s as simple as that. And as painful as it is, it’s nowhere near as painful as what my son experienced that night.”

With the nightclub set to be demolished, Leinonen hopes the memorial that will take its place honors all who were impacted that night.
