On Tuesday, Clark University announces plans to restructure it's programming in an effort to enhance it's academic offerings. This restructuring, according to a statement from Clark will "Impact the size of the faculty, which will change to reflect the new academic structure. The highly personalized nature of academics at Clark, where students work closely with their professors in and outside the classroom, is a hallmark of the Clark student experience and will continue to be a priority with a target student-faculty ratio of 10:1."
Clark University said the reasons for the change "Comes at a time of unprecedented pressures on institutions due to national demographic changes impacting enrollment, increasing costs, policy changes, and uncertainty across higher education. Clark’s approach is responsive to these pressures while creating transformative opportunities for students and deepening the University’s impact in addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges."
Clark said its programming will focus on three areas of distinction. Climate, environment and society...media arts, computing and design...and health and human behavior. The school said current programming will be adjusted over the coming year with the addition of new majors, courses and concentrations.
In the statement released by the University on Tuesday Clark President David Fithian is quoted, "“All of higher education, Clark included, is at a critical inflection point. Rather than simply meet this challenging moment as an exercise in budget constraint, we have taken a longer view, leaning into current strengths and what is best about Clark to offer our students an even more compelling experience going forward.”
